Should you have the urge to hire a car and explore the island, sights such as this are not far away, along with Minoan ruins, Monasteries and Gorges. Or just take a stroll to the ruins of a Roman villa within metres of Asteria.
A regular bus service can take you to the beautiful town of Sitia (approx 40 minutes) with its harbourside tavernas and cafes, or the lively town of Ierapetra (approx 30 minutes).
There is an Observatory not too far away where you can go stargazing for just a few euros. There is also an Art Workshop (all materials provided) for those wanting to try something different.
